25 million rubles per person: Primorye residents fined for illegal logging
The local court sought nearly 100 million rubles from a group of “black loggers” to repay for the environmental damage.
In 2012, one of the defendants in the case and 3 of his friends organized illegal logging in Krasnoarmeysk district of Primorsky krai. In total, from 2012 to 2014 they conducted illegal felling of different tree species worth more than 99 million rubles.
At the end of 2015, these local residents were convicted for the illegal felling of forest trees on a large scale, and were sentenced by the court.
The deputy prosecutor of Primorsky krai filed a lawsuit in the interests of the Russian Federation to enforce a penalty in the amount of 99.6 million rubles as a compensation for the environmental damage. The property and cash owned by the illegal loggers (houses, apartments, cars, land and cash) were arrested.
Krasnoarmeysk District Court of Primorsky krai satisfied prosecutor’s claim in full. Actual execution of the court ruling will be monitored by the prosecutor’s office of Primorsky krai.
