Read moreThis map allows you to see the violations that occur in the Ussuri taiga. Different marks on the map show fire fronts, areas of illegal felling and illegal dumps in the Russian Far East. Each mark shows a certain event – a tragedy or a breach of law. Viewing the marks you will see how vulnerable is the Far Eastern taiga, and how fragile is the balance of nature.
All the marks you see on the screen are more than just information. Each report about illegal felling or forest fires displayed on the map goes to the Kedr (which means "cedar") automatic monitoring system of the Administration of Primorsky krai’s Forestry bureau. Experts of the bureau examine every report and try their best to help the forest, to save it.
You can also help the forest. When you see forest fire, illegal felling or dump, click the “Report the violation” button. Don’t forget to report the coordinates of the incident as accurately as possible.
A new mark will appear on the map, the experts of the Forestry bureau will get your report about a forest fire or illegal felling, and respective municipalities will be informed about an illegal dump. The forest rangers will go to extinguish the fire, detain poachers and illegal loggers or look for those responsible for a dump. As soon as the measures are taken, you will immediately know about it.
Using the map you will be able to keep track of what happened with the information you provided: what status is assigned to your report, and how it changes.
Map layer with the flame lights shows forest fires in real time. The information about the fires is provided by the satellites and local people.
Another layer shows the findings of the artificial intelligence: special bot compares photographs and finds where tree felling occurred over the last week.
All the events on the map are united in clusters. If you zoom in closer the separate events (fire, illegal felling or dump) become visible. This can be done by clicking on the icon with the number in the area you are interested in, or by using the zoom tool — icons “+” and “-“ in the left corner of the map.
Any spot on the map can be zoomed in to by double-clicking on it or by pressing the “+” (in the top left corner). Zooming out is only possible with the help of the “-“ icon.
In the upper left hand corner there is an icon “show-hide” (arrows) which allows for removing bookmarks with text from the map, opening the entire surface for viewing or working.
In the lower left corner of the map, you can select a cartographic background:
For those who are curious about how these maps work, you can go to the GeoMixer icon at the bottom of the map in the middle, which brings you to the website with background information and documents for work with Web-GIS projects
Triangles on the map show reports by common people who want to help the forest, just like you.
Circles on the map show the information that went into the Kedr ("Cedar") automatic monitoring system of the Administration of Primorsky krai’s Forestry bureau from the satellite images and the people who have found a violation in the forest and reported it.
After you clicked the “Report the violation” button and sent your information to the dispatcher, your report is checked and assigned a status.
